A towering idea, a very small marble, and a whole lot of testing.

SAMPLE STORY: This illustrates the article format. It does not describe a build we have filmed.

The Big Idea

What if a marble run could stand taller than its builder? The challenge is to make a stable tower with a complete route from the top to a catch tray at the bottom. Height is only half the adventure: the marble still has to make it home.

The Build Plan

Start with a wide base and a kit that supports the planned height. Add braces, then connect the route in sections. A grown-up handles the upper pieces and checks stability before anyone releases a marble. Nobody climbs the tower or nearby furniture.

The Test

Once an adult has approved the structure, release the same marble ten times. Record completed runs and note where a marble gets stuck or escapes. A real build story will include our results and the changes we made.

The Next Twist

Improve a brace or a connection without making the tower taller. Test again from the same starting point. Did the change improve the success rate?

Try Your Own Version

Use your kit’s instructions and height limits. A shorter run can test the same engineering idea: a stable base, secure supports and a route that works repeatedly.
